INTEREST GROUP NEWS

Claims Interest Group Starts Blog
The Society’s Claims Interest Group launched a new blog on March 19. The blog is set up for anyone to read, but you must log in as a member to post a comment. The first posting posed the following question: “In the claim world, we are faced with the uncertain balance of customer satisfaction, retention, and financial stewardship for our respective companies. Who sets the bar on customer satisfaction, the company or the consumer?” Read the responses, and post your own comment.

CPCU Society Oregon Chapter

Oregon Chapter Seeks to Update Bylaws

Each CPCU chapter is governed by a set of bylaws that outline the nomination process, election and duties of Chapter Officers and Directors, the conduct of the Chapter's Annual Meeting and the process by which bylaws may be amended.  Each chapter's bylaws must be approved by the Society's Board of Governors before they become officially recognized.  Our bylaws were last updated in 1993 and your Board of Directors recently mailed proposed, new bylaws for members' review and approval.  The new bylaws conform with the current CPCU Society "model" bylaws.  The new bylaws require approval of 2/3s of the voting members for ratification.  Your written post card vote (included with the mailing) should be returned to the chapter no later than May 15, 2008.

Should you wish to compare the proposed bylaws with those currently in place, just click HERE for a copy of our chapter's present bylaws.

Already Hard at Work: Your 2008 I-Day Committee

The Oregon Chapter 2008 I-Day Committee is already hard at work under the leadership of Maureen Farran, Committe Chairperson.  The 2008 I-Day is scheduled for November 12, 2008 at the Doubletree Hotel, Lloyd Center.

Sixty-one chapter members responded to our recent web poll on possible I-Day topics.  A majority of the respondents picked Today's Insurance Industry Challenges as "most important" and so the I-Day committee is building an agenda around the chosen theme of "New Images in the Crystal Ball."   We'll offer some insurance futurecasts and have both the General Session and the Breakouts concentrate on new challenges, new exposures, new risks and new solutions.  Oregon's Insurance Division Administrator, Mr. Scott Kipper (biography available HERE), will deliver the luncheon address.

The I-Day Committee has several subcommittees: Dale Thomas, Luncheon &  Facilities; Chuck Nagan, New Designee Reception; Diane Connolly, Registration; Bill Ruttledge and Frank Alegria, Publicity; Cathie Price, Printing; Roxane Russell, Ushers; Kathy Long, Vendors and Sue Drake, Continuing Education.  The committee as a whole is working on an informative schedule.

The next I-Day Committee meeting is Thursday, May 1 at 7:30 am.  Location: Farmers Insurance Conference Room, 4504 SW Corbett Avenue, Portland.  All interested CPCU Chapter members are welcome to attend and help with this major educational event.

Oregon Website Adds Chapter History Section

1969 All Industry Day

When recently connecting with several past chapter presidents, we were provided with some great photos of chapter events dating back to the 1960s. The collection can be viewed and downloaded by clicking on Oregon Chapter History or via the History section in the blue box on the upper left of this page.

The Chapter would like to expand this section. Should you have any photos or other printed memorabilia from the chapter's past, please email it to our Chapter Webmaster, Bill Ruttledge. To the extent possible, please try to identify photos with date and names of individuals. With help from chapter members, we'll be able to add to this section over the coming months, so check back regularily.
